Highlights of his Internet capabilities include web-enabled databases, document management systems, e-business applications, virtual private networks (VPNs), firewalls, network design, encryption, Intranets, and extensive system-wide integration of new and legacy hardware and software.
SPECIFIC EXPERIENCE In his five years at GCA, Mr. Nelson has been a technical advisor to Sales and Marketing in addition to his involvement as a key consultant to many of GCA's closest clients. Mr. Nelson has been responsible for developing key applications that have addressed many of his clients' needs. Some of these include:
- a server consolidation project which took 26 different network monitoring servers and brought them to a footprint of only 2 servers. This included minimizing both the hardware requirements, software requirements, software licenses, and therefore customer costs.
- a web-enabled Project Management tracking tool utilizing an Oracle database, Netscape's Enterprise (web) and Directory Servers, and both server and client side JavaScript programming.
- a web-enabled Document Management system that allows users to locate, distribute, and manage corporate information. This particular effort was built utilizing Perl, JavaScript, ASP, and various databases.
- a web-enabled Help Desk system to allow users and/or help desk agents the ability to update records in a Netscape Directory Server. This particular project utilized the Netscape Directory Server, Perl, and client-side JavaScript. The appropriate access control mechanisms were put into place to ensure that users could only update their information.
- Migration of 17,000 users from 7 different HR database systems to a common (web-enabled) directory server.
Mr. Nelson has recently taken his experience as both consultant and developer and begun instructing during "off project" weeks. His focus has been primarily with Electronic Commerce Infrastructure courses and has focused on those offered by iPlanet.
